This project explores alternative options when it comes to assessing students rather than the traditional grade based system. The problem with the current system is it alienates students and diminishes kids from finding a passion for learning. It tends to diminish students’ interest, and it creates a preference for the easiest task possible. And it reduces the quality of students’ thinking. The 21st century demands students to be critical thinkers, collaborators, solve problems in creative ways, and communicate their ideas. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative assessment and assess how to implement alternative systems in a classroom. The audience for this project is mainly other educators that are interested in assessment systems that are relevant to the 21st century. Through this project it sheds light on a need to refine the current system we use and refine to meet the needs of the 21st century demands.
