Model UN
Self-Assessment
1. The thing I am most proud of during the first MUN conference was the second speech I
made which convinced a great majority of the class to vote for the resolution I
ended up promoting. I said, I am going to be comparing resolutions 2A and 2D to
resolution 2E. All of them are very considerable and very two sided. But looking
at 2E, although it is reasonable and logical it goes towards a two state
solution which the UK must abstain because of the risk of the two groups fighting. Looking at resolution 2A
and 2D, they are less risky because of keeping two conflicting enemies close to
each other is not such a good idea. The UKstrongly supports resolution 2A but
looking at the circumstances, 2D is way more popular so I would suggest
combining the first operative in 2A and add it to 2D. This will make 2D’s plan
much faster and more effective.
I am proud of this speech because it convinced a big portion of the assembly to vote for the now amended 2D. I feel I
did what I wanted to do in the conference and plan to do the same in the next
one.
2. The thing I connected most with this project was the sac debate. It was the activity
that made me test my skills in annotating and be able to effectively understand
the content I just read because I admit that it is not my strongest skill. This
helps me better understand the Israel and Palestine
issue which made my performance in the exhibition much more interactive.
3. The most important thing I learned in this project is not letting other people’s
opinions or remarks get me down. For example, in the second practice debate
there was a lot of off topic debate whether global warming was actually true.
This deeply affected me because as you know I have a strong opinion about this
subject and there a lot of negative remarks made by not very respectable people
that made me very frustrated and sad. Although this is not really about the
actual content we learned I feel that I built a good foundation about respecting
other peoples views and not letting my self get down if they don’t respect mine.
4. As an observer I think that I did fairly well, but after talking to my father about
how I did I asked him to scale me on a range 1-10 and tell me a very critical
answer on how I did. But from what my dad pointed out, he noticed I say a lot of
ums, especially when I am asked a question. Definitely next exhibition I will
limit this factor of saying ums. Also when I was giving my speech people found
that it’s hard to keep track with what I’m saying. And even when I am writing I
tend to add to much complicated words it ends up sounding like a jumbled up
mess. So next exhibition I want to make my speeches more clear and
decisive.
5. The things that I want to improve on for next conference is not saying as much ums
when asked a question and to make my speeches more clear when I am writing them.
Like I said in number four there are things I could improve on practice. So I am
going to make my speeches more clear by spending more time practicing them out
loud and reading them to a peer so they could give me feed back on how to make
it better.
6. No, I did not how ever I did amend one and convinced a lot of people to vote for a
resolution.
