Assignment (Due Tuesday EOD)
Objectives:
- Research various rocket designs
- Design a blueprint for your rocket
- Refine and critique blueprints before construction
Introduction to the Rocket Project (Nuts and Bolts)
- How will the project be run for both math and physics
- Review Scope and Sequence
- Learn about the engineering design process
Starter: What do you know about the engineering design process?
3rd Period:
- Intro to EDP
- Rocket Research Activity
Resources:
4th Period
- How to Draw to Scale Starter
- Draw an object to scale top and side profiles
- Rocket Blueprint Activity
- Rocket Critiques
- Partner Survey: Kai Pod, Oliver Pod, Tucker Pod
POW Update: Due date extended to Friday.
Objective:
Understand the expectations for a Math 10 POW
Starter:
POW Exemplar Starter: Discuss the following prompts for the exemplar and write a one sentence summary of your discussion as evidence.
- In what ways does this person have a clear problem statement? How could it be improved?
- In what ways does the process make it clear to understand, and to what extent could it be replicated by someone that is not familiar with the problem?
- In what ways is the conclusion honest, and shows a clear understanding of the solution and how to get there?
- Class discussion: Share one takeaway from this activity and how you can apply that to refine your POW write up?
POW Work Time (Rest of Class)
Objective:
Find a solution for the POW.
Starter: Wrestle with the Problem (5 min, no talking)
- Write down 4 important factors on the back of your sheet
- Write down 3 ideas or questions about the problem
Janitor POW
Description: Three Janitors work in the same building, however they all arrive at work at different times. The first Janitor arrives at the building and cleans half of the building in 2 hours. The second Janitor arrives and helps the first Janitor clean and they both work together. In 30 minutes they clean up to 75% of the building before the third Janitor arrives. Once the third Janitor arrives all three of them finish cleaning the building in 10 minutes.
Question: How long would it take for each Janitor to clean the building by themselves? (Note each Janitor cleans at a different rate)
Question: How long would it take for each Janitor to clean the building by themselves? (Note each Janitor cleans at a different rate)
Agenda:
- Math 10 Pre-Assessment
- (Done Early) Finish Classroom Scavenger Hunt (Due Friday)
Get to know you Activity
- Name?
- If you could have a low key super power what would it be?
(Starter) Letter to Ande (Due today)
Classroom Scavenger Hunt (Due Friday 8/25)
Agenda:
- Efficiency and Transmission Assignment
- Finish POW Write Up
Starter:
Objective
Learn about energy efficiency with transmission
Essential Question:
Why do we transmit at high voltages?
Assignment:
Efficiency and Transmission Assignment (Due Friday End of Class)
Objectives:
- Determine what efficiency is, and apply it to power generation.
- Determine the efficiency rating of all the kinds of ways we generate electricity.
Key Ideas:
- Efficiency can be thought of as not wasting energy.
- Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but can be transformed from one form to another.
- When transferring energy from one form to another energy is lost in the process, that lost energy is converted into heat, sound, or light.
- Heat, Sound, and Light is energy loss or consumption.
Types of energy electricity makes:
- Heat
- Light
- Motion and Sound
Assignment:
Objectives:
- Practice using Ohm’s Law on parallel circuits
- Introduce the Bridge POW
Starter:
POW (Due Thursday 4/20)

2. (15 min) Whiteboard
3. (5 min) Group
- Clarifying Question
- Idea for a solution
- Important observation
2. (15 min) Whiteboard
- Everyone share their note card
- Develop a strategy to crossing the bridge
3. (5 min) Group
- Clarifying Questions
- Ideas for solutions
- Important Observations
Objective
Apply Ohm’s Law to parallel circuits, and learn to calculate power consumption
Starter
